At officially 2:10 school is out for the summer…

I know I’ve said this before but it seems like as soon as your children entered into the graded classes the time just flies by. Well, this year was no different. I can’t believe another year is over. There are so many wonderful things that have happened this year. I am so proud of my children for growing academically, emotionally and socially. It was beautiful to see my daughter hugging people who where telling her they’ll miss her during the summer. I’m thrilled.

If you’ve been reading the blog long enough you’ll realize that I am a sucker for tradition. I figure any way we can acknowledge and celebrate the milestones in life we should. No better time than the present I say. So at the end of the year I always make sure that there’s a bit of tradition going on. Just like at Christmas when I recap their year I do the same kind of thing at the end of the year. It’s a little thing that both of them look forward to and it gives me a chance to let them know how amazing they are. Here’s what our daughter came home to this afternoon:

GRADE 4 is done…
Sydney,
We just wanted to tell you how very proud we are of you for all of the incredible things you have accomplished this year.
This year in Grade 4 you have had so many firsts and everyone is so proud of you.
Remember some things going ahead with life:
- Always trust yourself because you have everything within you to shine.
- Always try and do a kind deed to someone else before one is done to you.
- Always laugh with your friends so that the positive energy is contagious.
- Always know that you are on the right path because everything you do is for a very good reason.
- Always be proud of who you are.
- Always remember that each time you take a step forward the world opens up to you.
- Always know that all of your good memories are right inside of you always and forever.
You are amazing and don’t ever forget it.

Lots of love and hugs and kisses,

Mom & Dad

A big thank you to all of her teachers, EA’s and everyone involved in her life. This year has been another great step from the last. Have a great summer everyone.

Do you have any traditions that you do with your kids? We’d love to hear them.

Because you love it or have to?

Question

Here’s a question for the day…
Are you doing what you are doing because you love it or because you have to?
Despite what your brain tells you there are choices. The choices we make can make the difference between euphoria and misery. Big changes don’t have to happen overnight. Each day make a commitment to yourself to step out of your comfort zone. One small step at a time your life will begin to take on a very different look and feel. I know, you’re saying, “what if it doesn’t work and what if I can’t do it?”. Well, imagine if it does work and you can do and just have faith in yourself. See what happens?

Virtual role playing – does it help anxiety?

I just came across this article about using virtual role playing to help kids manoeuvres social situations so when they are actually in the situation they can be more prepared. What do you think? Do you think kids sitting in front of the computer in a virtual world will help them? I’m not convinced this is the best way. Tell me what you think?

Left from write – what is Dyslexia

I had to share this documentary with you about dyslexia. It was created by an Irish filmmaker who is dyslexic. It includes interviews with many experts & dyslexic adults, children, teachers, parents. Ronald Davis, author of the book The Gift of Dyslexia, is included in the documentary (at roughly the 6 minute & 39 minute positions).

Monday Mantra

Since I kind of missed the morning I have changed today’s mantra to “Monday Mantra”. That’s okay, it’s all good!

“I am open to all suggestions and celebrate all of my accomplishments. I am ready for a miracle and ready to move forward and embrace what wonder lies ahead. I accept that things will happen in their own time and I will allow the future to unfold as it should.”

14 days and counting

It always amazes me how quickly the school year goes by. Seems like just yesterday that I was holding the hands of both of my children embarking on new adventures in the lower grades. Seems like just yesterday that I was walking into the school trying to help make the transition from black top to classroom.
My children every single year make me so proud and it is usually around this time when I get melancholy and think about all of their accomplishments.
You know the blog originally started because of a need for our voice to be heard and over the years it has become so much more than that. It’s become a place of celebrating successes, embracing changes and hearing from people from all over the world that their children are struggling and need help. It’s become a place of great resources and it will continue to be a place for “building that village”.
So this year we have met some great milestones.
