Do you practise mindfulness?

Have you ever heard of mindfulness? In short it is about being very aware of your actions. When you pick out a cup of tea be mindful and take a moment to think about what taste you are looking for. Shifting your awareness like this brings about a sense of clarity. When you are in the moment you enjoy it fully and who doesn’t like that. So try it and see what happens and feel free to share your experience with us.

“Mindfulness is simply being aware of what is happening right now without wishing it were different; enjoying the pleasant without holding on when it changes (which it will); being with the unpleasant without fearing it will always be this way (which it won’t).” – James Baraz”

Here’s what people are saying about “Just Like You”

I LOVE getting feedback. I think it is such an important source of knowledge and connection. I’m sure any author will agree connecting with their audience is an amazing feeling. So you can imagine how excited I was to get this email from a parent who just bought the book for their child. Remember, there is always room on the blog for comments!

“We received your books today. Thank you very kindly for your prompt service!
The book is wonderful in the way it tells the story, and the toolbox journal is a great idea!
The exercises are an excellent way to help put into words the feelings of anxiety and the various daily challenges, as well as helping to establish some coping mechanisms.
We are grateful for your help.”

Beautiful..simply beautiful!

A little bit about the book:

“Just Like You” raises awareness around the daily struggles that some children face. Simple things like answering a question, playing in the school yard and going to the library are such struggles for kids who have anxious feelings. This book is written to help others understand what anxious behaviour both looks and feels like. “Just Like You” is a valuable tool for creating awareness and support for families dealing with anxiety.

The book introduces the concept of the “anxiety monster”. It allows children to see anxiety as an “it” or a “thing” that is completely separate from them. The story teaches that worry, fear and panic are feelings that can be managed while reinforcing the fact that despite the main characters’ differences, she really is “Just Like You”.

Young readers are also introduced to the concept of a toolbox which holds numerous ideas and choices for helping to reduce the effects of the “anxiety monster”, allowing them to be successful in everyday tasks.

This is a great story for children with anxiety as well as their peers. It provides great opportunities to help reduce the stigma surrounding mental health issues as well as raise awareness that these amazing children just need to be heard and helped.

Monday Morning Mantra

Life is so simple yet sometimes we make it so complicated. We as humans make mistakes however most of us learn from those mistakes and move on. Reflecting on your own true self and being self-aware of your actions and thoughts is key to living a full life; one with purpose and intention. So today’s mantra is a simple one -

“Every action I make is from the heart. I live each day knowing that I am the best that I can be.”

Have a great Monday!

Thankful Tuesday

Every day we have something to be thankful for. Sometimes we are just so caught up in all the chaos we neglect all the small things that make our lives truly amazing.

Heart of happinessToday I am truly thankful for the snuggles in the morning with my children. It fills my heart with joy and warmth to know hear those giggles and feel the warmth of their bodies as they hug me. I hope that my kids will never be too old, too embarrassed or too tired to hug me.
