Happy Mother’s Day

It is only when you become a parent do the words your mother uttered to you become a stark reality, “You just wait until you have kids of your own and you will understand what I’m saying.” It is only when you become a mother that you realize EXACTLY what your own mother had to deal with raising you.

Mom & I (1971)

Mom & I 1971

I dreamt about my mother a lot last night. It was like she was sneaking a little moment to say hello and to check up on the kids. Or at least that what it seemed as we sat down at the old kitchen table to talk – just like in the good old days.
Mother’s Day for me is a chance to reflect on all the things that I do for my children in order to make them aware of the world and thrive. It’s a chance for me to think about all of my friends who have kids and who between all of us share our challenges and successes dually noting how hard it is to see our children struggle and how amazing it is to see our children succeed.
To all of you who read the blog and for whom I don’t know personally I wish you a very Happy Mother’s Day. Connecting in any way is a chance for us a build relationships, connections and support to make our lives a little easier because we aren’t feeling so alone.
For those of you who are not mother’s but found the blog to help a friend and their family, know that the nurturing aspect that makes us amazing women is celebrated in you too.
I hope that today you find a moment to embrace just how incredible a mother, friend and person you are. Remember to always give yourself the praise you deserve and not in a selfish way but in a nurturing way, just like the way you would encourage and embrace your own children.

Monday Morning Mantra

Sorry this should have been posted this morning but the time has escaped me today. What’s your mantra for the day. Here’s mine.

Picture of a child in the woods hiding behind trees.
Monday Morning Mantra:
I am aware that each and every single day is a gift and I thank God that I have been given a chance to make a difference, to be a wife, to be a mother and to be a friend. I choose to take this gratitude and speak with only positive words; words that empower and soothe and appreciate all those around me.

Quote about a mother

“When you are a mother, you are never really alone in your thoughts. A mother always has to think twice, once for herself and once for her child.”

— Sophia Loren
